Shutters

Design Options

When you want to bring your imagination to light, our range of shutters are flexible to suit your tastes and requirements, with a variety of materials, colours, sizes and styles ensuring that there is a shutter for you.
We will advise you on both your design options and any optional extras you may wish to consider.

Control

All shutters, unless you have opted for solid panels, require a mechanism to enable you to adjust the light.

The tilt rod is the bar that runs down either the centre or offset to the left or right of your shutter panels.

Alternatively the silent tilt controls the louvres by a mechanism within the panel itself, meaning that if you tilt one, the others move with it. This is now the most popular way of operating your shutters.

Design

Our shutters are made especially for you so it’s its important to get it right at the design stage

Louvre Size

When choosing the size of the louvres you need to think about aesthetics and proportions, but also how much light and privacy you want. The smaller the louvres, the greater the privacy and less light. Larger louvres will give you a better view of outside and plenty of light but less privacy.

47mm, 63mm, 76mm, 89mm, 114mm size louvres available across our range

Mid-Rail

Having a mid-rail allows you to tilt different sections of the shutter panel, meaning you can control the light to suit your taste. A mid-rail means that you can also keep the lower section closed, leaving the top open, providing privacy for the home when needed. A mid rail would line up with existing window features, and provide stability for larger windows or openings.

Invisible Split

An alternative option to the midrail would be the invisible split, this would still allow you to operate the lower and upper sections of the panels without the need for a physical rail within the panel.
When the louvres are level, you wouldn’t know the split was there, ideal for plain windows with no transoms

Shutter Panels

The configuration of your windows and the location of the mullions will influence the number of shutter panels you need. Plantation shutters look as stunning from the outside as the inside, and the panels can be lined up to your window frames for a completely uniform look.

Single Panels

With our valued customer feedback taken into consideration, we tend to favour the single panel option in most situations. Having individual opening panels allows you to access each window independently, making it easier to open and clean windows

Bi-Fold Panels

Bi-Fold shutters are when two shutter panels are hinged together. When opened the two married plantation shutters fold at the hinged joint. You can also have multiple panels hinged together but this would depend on the size of the panels and the material used.

Frame Options

We have many frame choices to suit the architeccture of your window recesses and the type of windows you have in place. During our no obligation home visit, we will consider all the factors, including the more obvious ones such as whether your window opens inwards or outwards and how far your window handles protrude from the window.

The most usual installation style is inside the recess. The shutter frame sits inside the hollow in your wall (the recess) and creates a frame surround. Plantation shutters are then situated within the frame and panels can be opened. However, they will not fold back flush against the wall. In our experience though, once you have window shutters fitted you will rarely open the panels, but just position the louvres to suit your mood.

Your shutters can also be fitted to the front edge of the recess, the benefit of this installation style is the ability to fold the window shutters flush open against the walls, as long as there are no barriers such as furniture or architecture to prevent the shutters from operating as such. Frame options include a Z frame style which will provide an architectural architrave around the window

We can also install your shutters to the outside of the recess, this option is ideal for tilt and turn windows or when your window is flush with the wall with no recess

Colour

Here at Tendring our shutters are known for their quality of finish, as well as their versatility. No colour is impossible, no space is too awkward and no window too large for plantation shutters, crafted to suit your vision.
Although white shutters are the most popular choice, we know that you’ll have a design in your mind, which is why we offer a range of colours and finishes to suit every interior.

Don’t just settle for white shutters, why not choose a colour that suits your personality? From vibrant reds and eye-catching oranges, through to beautiful blues and dainty pinks, let your imagination run free with our custom colour option. Custom colour is available for the Hamford and Beaumont ranges.

All we need is a sample of the colour you’d like, the sample will need to be a solid block of colour for the highest quality colour match possible, ensuring your shutters will be crafted to meet your expectation

Accessories

Other options include hinges, catches, magnets and ring pulls which will be based on your choice of material and style, and whether you wish to match the shutters to your other furniture, for example door handles and light switches.
